“Whether it's your first time in Italy or you're a seasoned European traveler, Sorrento and the Campania region are a special treat. The region is naturally beautiful - everywhere you look, you are treated to gorgeous views of the sea and the surrounding cliffs, and you can often see Sorrento's famous islands and the Vesuvius volcano in the distance. Some of the best views of the entire trip were from the hotel's rooftop terrace and our private balcony, especially at sunset when we were treated to some of the most spectacular color shows I've ever seen. The activities were carefully curated and well-balanced between opportunities for exploration and experiences, and chances to rest and wind down. Between excursions to Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi, a morning in Pompeii, and the tarantella dance experience, we got a really wonderful overview of the region's highlights, but it was the food that I continue to dream about! Every restaurant was chosen with care and intention, and every meal was out-of-this-world delicious, with lots of variety and a common thread of super-fresh, local ingredients and top-tier technique across the board. All of that being said, the world is full of beautiful places with great food. What made this trip a truly special, once-in-a-lifetime experience was our guide, Barbara, the "B" in B&G Adventures Abroad. She is warm, deeply knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making the trip an amazing and special experience. A native of Sorrento, Barbara seems to know absolutely everyone. And if she doesn't know someone personally, she knows someone who does. These connections, along with her vast knowledge of Sorrento and the surrounding area, made everything absolutely effortless for the group and allowed us to enjoy ourselves in a truly carefree way. Communication gap? Native Italian speaker Barbara is right there with you (and whoever you're trying to talk to is probably her friend's cousin from elementary school). Flight delays require changes to transfers or hotel arrangements? No problem, Barbara's on the phone and has everything solved right away. Need a recommendation for something to eat, see, or do during your free time? Great, Barbara has at least six.
